BR+ Detox
The Facts
Acknowledging the Brain Disease
The “Reward Deficiency Syndrome” speaks to hereditary chemical imbalances wherein the pleasure centers, which regulate feelings of well-being in the brain, fail to receive appropriate neural signals. Consequently, the brain sends out urgent messages of craving. In the brains of addicts, various neurotransmissions are affected, depending upon the drug or drugs that have been used. As a result, addicts may experience difficulty concentrating, have wild mood swings, as well as other physical symptoms. Collectively, these symptoms are called cravings and withdrawals. They are a result of a neurochemical imbalance in the brain, which constitutes the brain disease portion of addiction.
Brain Restoration Plus (BR+) Detox and Stress Management
Brain Restoration Plus (BR+) is a nutritionally based adjunct to detoxification that has demonstrated remarkable success at safely withdrawing patients from their addictive substances with few or no cravings and reduced or eliminated withdrawal symptoms.
BR+ utilizes intravenous infusions of nutritional supplements including amino acids and coenzymes. Studies done in the early 1960s demonstrated it's efficacy and safety in detoxifying patients from alcohol, opiates, tranquilizers and stimulants.
Like the early studies, our experience with the protocol over the past 10 years substantiates its benefits in reducing, and in many cases, eliminating craving for substances, along with enabling increased clarity of thought and stabilization of mood. We have also observed a significant reduction in the need for additional detox medications, particularly in patients withdrawing from alcohol, Valium, Xanax, and other drugs where sudden withdrawal can trigger a seizure.
BR+ is effective across a broad range of addictive substances; alcohol, opiates, stimulants as well as combinations of these drugs. Side effects, which are mild and include muscular aches, gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, and nasal stuffiness, can be controlled by moderating the rate of infusion. All side effects disappear when the IV-delivery is slowed and also when the IV is removed at the end of the day’s treatment. No long-term side effects have been observed or reported.
We have found BR+ to be effective at enabling patient withdrawal from addictive substances and overcoming PTSD, anxiety, and chronic or acute depression in more than 90% of cases. Patients report no cravings, increased clarity of mind, better problem-solving ability, improved focus and concentration, increased energy, and improved mood. We further believe that BR+ is likely to improve dopamine tone in various parts of the brain, although studies to document this result remain ongoing.
What to Expect
Treatment is delivered on an out-patient basis, typically requiring eight to ten days for addiction detoxification (longer for certain drugs or drug combinations). The protocol for PTSD and other depression and anxiety disorders is generally only four days.
Individual and/or family therapy is also a valuable part of treatment, depending upon the patient’s medical history and needs. Typically, therapy begins on or after the third day of the detox process with BR+. We highly recommend a structured after care program of continued counseling, BR+ supplementation, a healthy diet and exercise regimen, and deepening and practicing one's spiritual faith. The following are suggested after-care options:
Professional Services provided by Therapia Associates
Therapia Associates began as a private counseling service started by Paula Norris in 1980. Her mission is to provide compassionate care of the highest standard to individuals and families experiencing the emotional consequences of depression, anxiety, bereavement, acute/chronic or post traumatic stress, marital/relational conflict, ADD/ADHD, chronic pain, and surgery or test anxiety.

Individual Counseling and Psychotherapy

Bereavement and Grief Counseling
Low Level Laser Therapy
Effective pain reduction can be achieved using LLLT. The unique pain reduction abilities of LLLT have been extensively researched and documented in numerous clinical studies and medical papers. The pain amelioration capabilities of LLLT are accomplished via the combination of local and systemic actions, using enzymatic, chemical and physical interventions.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is usually considered an aid to psychotherapy (counseling), rather than a treatment in itself. It helps with psychotherapy because it allows the mind to be hyper focused while the body is relaxed. It allows people to explore painful thoughts, feelings and memories they might have hidden from their conscious minds. This approach uses the relaxed state to find the root cause of a disorder or symptom like a traumatic past event. Once the event is revealed, it can be addressed in counseling.
Hypnotherapy can help some people change certain behaviors like smoking and nail biting. It can help people change perceptions and sensations and is particularly useful in treating pain.
Guided Imagery
Guided imagery is a gentle but powerful technique that focuses and directs the imagination. Like hypnosis, the altered state is a state of relaxed focus, a kind of calm but energized alertness. Think of guided imagery as interactive visualization. It is particularly useful in treating PTSD.
Auricular Acupuncture
Auricular Acupuncture is the combination of the ancient Chinese system of acupuncture and low level laser technology (LLLT) used in the treatment of various illnesses and diseases experienced in our culture. There are hundreds of protocols approved by both the Chinese and Western systems of ear acupuncture that are proven safe and effective. LLLT may be useful in the treatment of anxiety and stress, depression, ADD/ADHD weight management, anger management, smoking secession, pain management, memory and concentration, fatigue and insomnia.
