Dog at wellness empowerment meeting doorNew in 2019 at Springfield Wellness Center: The inaugural WE (Wellness Empowerment) meeting took place on Tuesday, January 8th from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
WE has been designed specifically to meet the needs of the local SWC alumni members who have expressed the interest and desire to participate in a support group in contrast to the old meeting paradigm.

The WE meeting was developed as a departure from the traditional 12-step model. Springfield Wellness Center wants to provide a safe, trusting environment for alumni to meet as a group for the personal benefits that come from group participation, such as social / emotional support, building of hope and confidence, and the exchange of ideas and energy. There is strength in numbers!

Every meeting will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. throughout the year. Please join us and help us with this new meeting design so that it can be something that everyone can benefit from and look forward to. Alone, I can do so little; together, WE can do so much. After all, it’s not a ME world; it’s a WE world.

When it comes to mental health or addiction treatment, it’s not uncommon for facilities to offer 12-step meetings. After all, 12-step meetings are a staple regarding addiction treatment. However, what about people who are looking for a departure from these meetings? In these cases, Wellness Empowerment meetings at Springfield Wellness Center take a different approach.

What Are Wellness Empowerment Meetings?

Wellness Empowerment (WE) meetings are new to Springfield Wellness Center as of 2019. In fact, the inaugural meeting took place on Tuesday, Jan. 8. The response we got from those who participated was overwhelmingly positive.

Wellness Empowerment meetings came about as a way for people to depart from traditional 12-step meetings. However, we also came up with WE meetings to meet the needs of alumni who showed interest in support groups.

What Do We Do at WE Meetings?

What many people really want to know about WE meetings is what happens during them. After all, it’s a fairly new program that we offer at Springfield Wellness Center. The overall goal of WE meetings is to provide a safe environment where our alumni can gather and talk.

During Wellness Empowerment meetings, our alumni enjoy the benefits of participating in support group meetings. These benefits include receiving emotional and social support. The meetings also help people build confidence so that they can continue to live their best lives.

Also, we encourage everyone to share and exchange ideas with each other during WE meetings. By doing so, we create positive energy that they simply don’t get from standard support group meetings. In addition, we feel that the meetings give them something to look forward to every month.

When Are WE Meetings?

Typically, we have two meetings per month. On some occasions, we might have three meetings in a month. In January 2019, for example, we had meetings on Jan. 8 and Jan. 22. For July 2019, though, we held meetings on July 2, July 16 and July 30. In fact, the frequency just depends on how the days fall for that month.

In general, our Wellness Empowerment meetings run for about an hour, usually from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Afterward, many of our members hang out and talk for a bit before they head back home. Some even spend time with each other after the meetings. It’s not uncommon for them to enjoy dinner together as well.

Once again, this is what makes WE meetings so important. It inspires people to make not only friends but also build positive relationships that they can grow from. In these relationships, they share similar goals and motives.
