Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is an essential pyridine nucleotide with critical roles in cellular processes associated with energy production, protection against stress and inflammation, cell signaling, DNA repair, epigenetics, and longevity.
As a foundational molecule necessary for the functioning of every cell in your body, and also for some unique tasks that it alone can perform, NAD+ is essential to human health. Unfortunately, however, NAD+ levels naturally decline with age – studies show a sharp decline as early as our 30s1 – and are also depleted by illness, addiction, and other stressors, including the stress of modern living.
That’s why it makes such good sense to regularly boost your NAD+ levels. By doing so, you give your body the resources it needs to:
- Maintain cellular energy levels
- Repair damaged DNA
- Fight inflammation
- Regulate sleep
- Lengthen telomeres (associated with longevity)
- Strengthen immune health
- Regulate healthy epigenetic expression
- Boost cognitive function
- Enhance athletic performance
In addition, our own clinical research, as well as research being conducted all over the world, has shown that NAD+ can effectively treat a growing number of conditions. Those related to cognitive functioning are described here: Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, CTE, TBI, and other neurodegenerative diseases.
Ways NAD+ Can Prevent or Address a Wide Range of Health Conditions
NAD+ has been shown to boost energy and athletic performance, improve brain function and mood, aid sleep, repair DNA, fight inflammation, and slow the diseases of aging.
According to research compiled by HealthNews.com:
- NAD+ is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that assists in various vital cell functions necessary for good health.
- As we age, our bodies stop producing adequate amounts of NAD+, leading to physical and cognitive declines.
- NAD+ supplements and NAD+ precursors (such as NMN and niacin) have shown promise in prolonging life in mice studies.
- NAD+ supplements are available in many forms, have few side effects, and may help prevent cancer, cognitive degeneration, and issues like high cholesterol.
These results are derived from NAD’s role in:
- Redox reactions, which assist in energy production.
- Enzyme activities that regulate metabolism and the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle.
- Cellular functions that include DNA repair, cell death (which prevents cells from multiplying at an out-of-control rate), and immune cell function.
Here are the five main benefits of NAD+ that are supported by scientific evidence so far (and we anticipate more as research continues):
1. NAD+ Slows Aging
Although there is no stopping the aging process, NAD+ supplementation can alter the cellular processes that lead to physical and cognitive decline. Scientists have observed that reduced NAD+ levels in the body are linked to age-related disorders, including dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, heart disease, cancer, and sarcopenia—loss of muscle mass with age. Scientists have also observed that NAD+ supplementation can lengthen telomeres—key longevity indicators.
2. NAD+ Increases Energy
NAD+ is the fuel mitochondria use to produce cellular energy. Because energy is required for every physiological process, adequate NAD+ levels are essential to health and well-being. In addition, boosted NAD+ levels may enhance and sustain athletic performance, protect muscles from degradation over time, and assist in muscle recovery after workouts.
3. NAD+ Improves Cognitive Function
As noted, reduced levels of NAD+ are linked to neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. While most of this research thus far has occurred in mice and rats, researchers believe that NAD+ supplementation may play a similar role in cognitive impairment in humans, as well. Indeed, our own clinical results at Springfield Wellness Center document NAD’s ability to address the symptoms and slow the progression of both of these diseases.
4. NAD+ Reduces Cholesterol
Both NAD+ and the NAD+ precursor, niacin, have been shown to have a beneficial effect on cholesterol. Specifically, niacin has been shown to lower triglycerides and raise HDL cholesterol (“good cholesterol”), both of which are crucial for lowering your risk of heart disease, which is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.
5. NAD+ Reduces Cancer Risk
Because NAD+ plays a critical role in cellular health, the benefits of NAD+ may include the prevention, treatment, and arrest of certain types of cancer through NAD’s role in DNA repair and epigenetics signaling.

Complementary Treatments for Enhanced NAD+ Response
As the NAD+ authority in the United States, Springfield Wellness Center has also discovered complementary wellness technologies that are able to work synergistically to boost the effectiveness of NAD+ supplementation. These treatments include:
Infrared Light Therapy (Photobiomodulation Therapy)
Studies show that, together with NAD+, infrared light therapy will activate enzymes, support mitochondrial function, and stimulate, heal, and regenerate injured tissue, including diabetic wounds and sun damaged skin. Infrared light therapy also provides a relaxing, contemplative time for body and mind.
“RLT has been shown to augment tissue repair, promote regeneration and skin rejuvenation, and boost the production of hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin.” — The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology
Red light therapy has been FDA-approved for:
- Reversal of sun or UV damage to the skin
- Wound healing
- Increased circulation
- Reducing pain and inflammation including joint pain
- Treatment of acne
- Reducing the appearance of wrinkles, pigmentation spots, stretch marks, and/or scarring
- Skin rejuvenation, restoration, oxygenation, and/or hydration
- Collagen production
- Supporting skin structure, elasticity, and metabolism
Red light therapy is also indicated for:
- Weight loss and fat reduction
- Improved athletic performance
- Increased testosterone production
- Better thyroid health
- Reduced depression and anxiety
- Better sleep
- Improved mood
Springfield Wellness Center offers both infrared sauna sessions and sessions with more targeted infrared light devices.
Cool Laser Therapy for Smoking Cessation and Pain Management
In addition to red light therapy, Springfield Wellness Center offers the Theralase® cool laser therapy, which works like acupuncture without the needles. A form of photobiomodulation, cool laser therapy is good for pain management and as an aid in smoking cessation: three treatments over the course of six days can stop the cravings, enabling you to quit smoking with ease.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBOT) for Brain and Skin Rejuvenation
HBOT treatment involves breathing concentrated oxygen in a pressurized chamber. Best known as a treatment for decompression sickness and wound healing, HBOT reduces inflammation, fights infection, and increases energy levels. It also promotes healing throughout the body— especially the brain, which represents only 2% of the body’s weight yet consumes 20% of its oxygen intake—and the skin. HBOT is particularly indicated for brain restoration from addiction, chemo fog or COVID fog, CTE, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
HBOT benefits include:
- Increased oxygen concentration in the tissues, helping them resist infection, while improving the ability of white blood cells to find and destroy invaders.
- Increased formation of new collagen and new skin cells.
HBOT benefits brain injury patients by:
- Improving sensation and language function
- Boosting movement and cerebral blood flow
- Improving cognition
- Reducing headaches, fatigue, depression, and anxiety
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) Therapy Speeds Healing
PEMF therapy is a soothing, restorative healing modality that utilizes non-ionizing electromag- netic fields for pain management and overall cell rejuvenation. The FDA has approved PEMF treatment for various conditions, including certain types of slow-healing bone fractures and untreatable brain tumors. These energy waves work with your body’s natural magnetic fields to speed up recovery, improve well-being and restore optimal cell-function.
PEMF therapy can help reverse the damage caused by the higher EMF radiation that is all around us and can lead to:
- Radiation damage
- Cell death
- Poor sleep
- DNA damage
- Hormone imbalance
- Free radical damage
- Poor metabolism
Shake Plate (Whole-Body Vibration)
The shake plate delivers whole-body vibration (WBV), transmitting energy to your body and forcing your muscles to contract and relax dozens of times a second. Studies have found that WBV can be an effective means to increase bone mineral density in postmenopausal women, as well as to boost levels of growth hormone, parathyroid hormone, and testosterone, which may prevent sarcopenia and osteoporosis. Finally, because the vibrations cause reflexive muscle contractions, WBV training stimulates muscle and bone growth.
Muscle contractions strengthen muscles, and stronger muscles pull harder on bones, strengthening them. Advocates say that as little as 15 minutes a day of WBV three times a week also burns fat, aids weight loss, improves flexibility, enhances blood flow, reduces exercise-related muscle soreness, and decreases the stress hormone cortisol. WBV is especially beneficial for people with mobility issues who may find other forms of exercise difficult.
Explore all of these treatments to look, feel, and perform at your best—in conjunction with IV infusions, or as stand-alone treatments.

Weight Loss Infusions
Because we’ve seen the effectiveness of infusions delivered directly to the blood stream, we are thrilled to now offer the weight loss infusion, tirzepatide, which is better known by its trademarked name, Mounjaro™.
Like Ozempic and Wegovy, tirzepatide was developed to treat diabetes and was later discovered to assist in weight loss. Tirzepatide is unique, however, in that it is the first drug of its kind to target two major hormones that regulate blood sugar levels: GLP-1 and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).
Like the other type 2 diabetes medications, tirzepatide lowers blood sugar levels, increases insulin sensitivity, slows the digestive system and decreases appetite. It also causes patients to lose weight. And, because tirzepatide targets two hormones that have key metabolic roles, patients might experience greater weight loss.
Tirzepatide is typically administered by a once-a-week injection under the skin of the abdomen, thighs, or the back of the upper arm. Side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, indigestion, and stomach pain.
There are more serious side effects too, although these are rarer. They include pancreatitis, low blood sugar, kidney failure, allergic reaction and gallbladder problems, among others. Tirzepatide also may cause tumors in the thyroid, so patients with a family history of a certain type of thyroid cancer—medullary thyroid carcinoma—should not use the medication.
Nevertheless, the drug can be a game-changer, especially for people who have tried diets and exercise, and still struggle to keep the weight off. But because the drug is so powerful, it’s important to take it under the guidance of a licensed medical physician that properly understands the risks and benefits.
